Abstract

This study describes the types of imperative sentences and their modesty. This research uses descriptive qualitative method. The data in this study are in the form of words, phrases, clauses and sentences contained in the rubric of the reader letter in the Suara Merdeka newspaper, January-March 2019 edition. The source of the research data is the newspaper. The data collection method used in this study is the listening (reading) method. The method of listening is the provision of data which is carried out by listening to the use of language. The data collection technique in this study is the note taking technique, which is recording the data obtained in the data card. The data in question is in the form of imperative sentences to be analyzed in the form of politeness. Found 2 results of analysis in this study. First is the types of imperative sentences. Both forms of imperative politeness. The resulting imperative form is first the imperative with the begging marker. Both imperative sentences with help markers. Polite form produced there are 2 results. First, the form of imperative politeness is classified as polite as evidenced by the fulfillment of the maxim of wisdom, simplicity, and maxim of sympathy. The two forms of imperative politeness are classified as impolite, which is characterized by violations of the maxim of wisdom and maxim of sympathy.
