Abstract

Background: Dyslipidemia is a disorder in fat metaboism that can be caused by the emergence of oxidative stress due to free radicals. PropoelixTM as an antioxidant can prevent high blood triglyceride levels by inhibiting oxidative stress. Objective: To determine the effect of PropoelixTM on blood triglyceride levels in strain wistar albino rats of dyslipidemic models. Research Method: This study was a true experimental design with pre test - post test control group design. Twenty eight (28) of strain wistar albino rats were divided into 4 groups with K1 received standard meal+aquadest gavage; K2 received high cholesterol meal+aquadest gavage; K3 received high cholesterol meal+PropoelixTM 0.0216 g; and K4 received high cholesterol meal+PropoelixTM 0.0432 g. Then triglyceride levels were measured using the pre and post treatment GPO-PAP method. The results were tested using the One Way Anova test. Result: The study showed that there was an increase in triglyseride levels at K1 is 1.44 mg/dL and K2 is 2.63 mg/dL. There was a decrease in triglyseride levels at K3 from 128.37 mg/dL to 110,66 mg/dL and K4 from 129.98 mg/dL to 92.32 mg/dL the decrease in triglycerides in K3 is 17.70 mg/dL while in K4 is 37.66 mg/dL. Conclusion: Provision of 0.0216 g and 0.0432 g PropoelixTM decrease triglyceride levels of dyslipidemia rats.
