Abstract

The eruption of the Mount Merapi Volcano has a quite severe impact on the people living around the volcano, as a result of this incident it has shaped the public's perception of the dangers of the eruption of Mount Merapi, such as lava and hot clouds. For people who live close to volcanoes and those far away, they will have a different perception. This study aims to determine the level of perception of the people of Sleman Regency who live in the area of Mount Merapi Volcano to the danger of the Merapi volcano eruption and the level of perception related to socio-economic characteristics. The method used is secondary data analysis with the sampling technique using stratified random sampling technique. Measurement of the level of public perception is divided into three categories, namely low, medium, and high. Based on the results of the analysis, it can be concluded that the perception of the people of Sleman Regency is in the 'medium' category with a comparison of the community's perceptions regarding socio-economy, such as education, employment and income. The measurement results show that the higher the level of education, the better the perception level, this also applies to the respondent's job status. The socio-economic profile of the respondents is that most of them have high school education as much as 36%, the majority of respondents work as farmers as much as 49% with an income below Rp. 4,000,000 per month. Of the 120 respondents, 87 respondents had a 'moderate' level of perception.
