Abstract

The Background of Study, Stunting is a problem of malnutrition which occurs over a long period of time, characterized by the child’s height not for age. Deficiency of zinc intake is able to reduce growth hormone which can cause stunting. The prevalence of stunting according to WHO (2018) in children was 22%. Based on Basic Health Research (2018), the prevalence of child stunting was 30.8% (11.5% very short and 19.3% short). The Objective of Study: To examine the effect of zinc intake on the incidence of stunting children. The Method of Study: The method of study is Critical Review using the Sinta (1-4) database and Scimago (Q1-Q4) with an observational method. The article uses Indonesian full text for national journals and full text article uses English for international journal. The inclusion criteria in this study were articles whose publication years were from 2011 to 2020. Proceeding, leaflets, and power point presentations were included in the exclusion criteria. The Result of Study: Low zinc intake affects plasma zinc and serum zinc levels in the blood. Low intake of zinc, plasma zinc and serum zinc levels are able to cause stunting in the children. Low zinc intake is caused by several factors, namely the high need of zinc for the growth process, limited sources of zinc intake, low absorption due to disruption of intestinal function and high phytate intake. The Conclusion, Stunting is caused by deficiency of zinc intake, plasma zinc and serum zinc. Plasma zinc and serum zinc levels are more indicative of stunting than zinc intake.
