Abstract
Paving blocks or concrete bricks are a composition of building materials made from a mixture of Portland cement or similar hydraulic adhesive, water, and aggregates with or without other added materials. Paving blocks are one of the environmentally friendly construction materials where paving blocks are very good at helping groundwater conversion which is not possessed by flexible and rigid pavements. In the field, paving blocks are also faster and easier to install and maintain and have an affordable price. Therefore, paving blocks are an alternative development in Indonesia that is environmentally friendly. In this study, to increase the compressive strength and water absorption, using a mixture of rock ash as much as 30% by weight of sand. The composition of the paving blocks includes fine aggregate cement and the addition of rock ash. The number of specimens for compressive strength is 32 specimens, 16 specimens without adding rock ash with variations of 500 Kg 5 Collisions, 500 Kg 10 Collisions, 600 Kg 5 Collisions and 600 Kg 10 Collisions, and 16 test objects with the same variations added rock ash at least 30% by weight of sand. 32 specimens for water absorption with the same variations. The test object is in the form of a 6 cm x 6 cm x 6 cm cube and the test is done after the paving is 28 days old. In the test results the compressive strength and water absorption of paving blocks without additional rock ash for variations of 500Kg 5 collisions have a compressive strength value of 8.54 MPa, with a water absorption value 14.78%, for variations of 500Kg 10 collisions, the compressive strength value is 9.31 MPa, with a water absorption value of 11.05%, for variations of 600Kg 5 collisions the compressive strength value obtained is 9.03 MPa with a water absorption value of 12 , 00% and for the 600Kg 10 collision variation, the compressive strength obtained was 10.14 MPa with a water absorption value of 10.11%. While the test results of compressive strength and water absorption of paving blocks with added stone ash for variations of 500Kg 5 collisions have a compressive strength value of 9.24 MPa, with a water absorption value. 15.04%, for the 500Kg variation of 10 collisions the compressive strength value is 10.28 MPa, with a water absorption value of 12.41%, for the 600Kg 5 collision variation the compressive strength value obtained is 9.72 MPa with a water absorption value of 13 , 10% while for the 600Kg 10 collision variation, the compressive strength value obtained was 11.04 MPa with a water absorption value of 11.03%.
