Abstract
Quenching will prevent any processes that can occur in slow cooling such as grain growth. This research aims to increase the hardness, tensile strength and to determine changes in the microstructure of tool blades made of medium carbon steel (S35C) after the quenching process with liquid brick salt media or on raw material. The work done for metal hardening by cooling rapidly from the austenizing temperature (generally at a temperature range of 815oC-870oC). The medium used is liquid brick salt The results of chemical composition testing showed the value of carbon (C) of quenching material and raw material categorized in medium carbon steel groups with carbon levels (C = 0.343% and 0.374%). The results of the tensile testing indicate that material quenching has more briter properties than raw material. From the test results of the hardness of the average hardness of quenching material of 421 VHN on the surface of the 578 VHN on the sides and raw material 324 VHN and 195 VHN. The resulting phase micro photographs are ferrite and pearli also martensite.
