Abstract

Request is performed by the speaker expressing for the addressee to do a particular thing and usually aim for the addressee to intend to do it. Requires the ability of the speaker not only in the language itself, but also in applying the language used in its context. This study aims to (1) To classify the kinds of request utterances found in Aladdin movie, (2) To identify the intention of request utterances based on situational context to Aladdin movie. This research is included in qualitative research. This type of research is descriptive research. The researcher collected data by classify the request utterances to the kinds of request. Researcher analysed the kinds of request used theory of Tsui (1994) while the analysis of the intention of request utterances found in Aladdin movie used the theory of Cutting (2002). The results show that there are found 5 kinds of request inside 28 data analysis, such as request for action 57%, request for permission 22%, request for offer 14%, request for invitation 7%, and request for proposal 0%. In addition, there are 7 intention inside 28 data analysis, such as intention 4% to assert, 18% to command, 39% to ask, 14% to demand, 7% to offer, 11% to invite, and 7% to inform. The biggest result in the kinds of request is request for action that is 57%. While the biggest result of the intention within the request utterances is to ask that is 39%.
