Abstract

Interest is a feeling of liking and feeling attached to something or an activity without being told. Some of them chose to become teachers. Being a teacher must be able to master the material, have extensive knowledge, be able to develop teaching skills and so on. This can lead to the perception of students becoming teachers and influencing student interest in becoming teachers. The problems that will be examined in this research are: What factors encourage students to become teachers and how do students' perceptions of the teaching profession. The purpose of this study was to describe the PAI students' interest in becoming teachers and the perceptions of Islamic Education students becoming teachers. This research is classified as a field research with a mix method research approach. Data collection methods used by researchers were questionnaires and interviews, data analysis by organizing data into categories, describing them into units, arranging them into patterns, choosing which ones were important to be studied and making conclusions. The results of the data analysis obtained can be concluded that there are two factors that influence the interest of Islamic Education students to become teachers, namely intrinsic factors and extrinsic factors. Fifteen respondents, of whom 40% strongly agree that the factors that influence Islamic Education students to become teachers are intrinsic factors, namely factors from within a person. Meanwhile, 36% of the fifteen respondents, of whom 36% strongly disagreed, that the factors that influence the students' interest in becoming teachers are extrinsic factors, namely factors that come from outside the individual, such as encouragement from others. Students' perceptions of the teaching profession can be seen from the competency standards that teachers must have, namely, pedagogical competence, personality competence, social competence, and professional competence. Based on the results of the study, 51% of students strongly agreed that the PAI students' perceptions of the teaching profession were based on pedagogical competence. As many as 67% of students strongly agree that PAI students' perceptions of the teaching profession are based on personality competencies. Meanwhile, as many as 50% of students agreed that PAI students' perceptions of the teaching profession were based on social competence. And as many as 53% of students agreed that PAI students' perceptions of the teaching profession were based on professional competence.
