Abstract
Social media is an online media, with its users can easily participate, share and create content including blogs, social networks, wikis, forums and the virtual world. Social media can be accessed using mobile phones, laptops, or computers with an internet connection. Most of the Islamic Education 2016 students of the Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta use social media and have social media accounts on several types of social media, especially Instagram. Lately Instagram is indeed rife because there are several benefits in it. The problems that will be examined in this study are: The use of social media Instagram among Islamic Education 2016 UMS students and what is explored in it. The purpose of this study was to identify the motives for using Instagram social media among Islamic Education 2016. This research is using a field research, with a method approach mixed method which is mixture between qualitative and quantitative, and data collection methods used by researchers in the form of a questionnaire to 20 respondents, the data were analyzed in accordance with the theory described. After getting the results of data analysis, then the conclusions of the motives for using social media Instagram Islamic Education 2016 were various, the most widely obtained were motives for seeking entertainment and motives for finding information, as well as the most preferred content was entertainment and informative content. The average respondent accesses Instagram social media with a duration of 1-3 hours a day. The most liked feature is Story, Like and Comment, because it's simple and easy.
