Abstract

The purpose of this study is to improve the ability to solve mathematical problems through problem solving in learning mathematics in class VII E School of Darul Ihsan Muhammadiyah Sragen Year 2019/2020. This type of research is classroom action research. The theory of polya consists of the ability to understand problems, the ability to plan problem solving, the ability to solve problems as planned, and the ability to review the results of the solutions. The results showed there was an increase in the ability to solve problems with indicators: 1) the ability of students to understand the problem before the action was 8 students (26.67%), in the first cycle was 21 students (70%) and the second cycle were 25 students (83.33 %), 2) the ability of students to plan problem solving before the action was 8 students (26.67%), in the first cycle were 19 students (63.33%), and in the second cycle there were 24 students (80%), 3) the ability students solve problems according to the plan before the action as many as 7 students (23.33%), in the first cycle there were 17 students (56.67%), and in the second cycle there were 21 students (70%), 4) the ability of students to review the results of the completion as many as 5 students (16.67%), in the first cycle were 14 students (46.67%) and in the second cycle were 20 students (66.67%).
