Abstract
Airplanes are public transportation facilities that are suitable for use in archipelagic countries such as Indonesia, in addition to speeding up travel time, including safe public transportation. Air transportation really needs to be taken into account, namely the safety aspect when the plane is flying. There are many considerations when the aircraft is flying from the weather, air pressure, wind direction, air temperature, static electricity between the friction of the aircraft's wings with clouds, and lightning strikes. Static discharge is an aircraft component that is located at the outermost edge or trailing edge on the aircraft's wings or aircraft tail, which is used to continue the lightning flow which hits the airplane going back into the air, and can also be used to neutralize the static electricity in the aircraft. due to the friction of the wings of the aircraft with clouds that cause static electricity to the aircraft, because lightning or static electricity can disrupt the work of electrical components, aircraft communication and navigation, can even damage the electrical components, communication components and navigation components that exist on an aircraft. The purpose of this thesis research is to know the static discharge working system that already exists in the current aircraft and to determine the location where the static discharge was installed on an aircraft. By using the scroll ball method, it is possible to find out the potential affected by lightning strikes located anywhere and also can determine the places that will be installed static discharge. So get results that are in accordance with the safety and airworthiness of the aircraft while on a flight or when parked at the airport apron. After conducting research with the scroll ball method to protect the lightning current of 100kA when the aircraft is not operating or not flying, the scroll ball radius is 32m, while when the aircraft is operating or flying to protect the lightning current by 100kA the scroll ball radius is 38m, where the most appropriate way to install a static discharge when the aircraft is operating or not operating is on the outermost wingtip as well as on the tail of the aircraft mounted on the outermost end of the elevator or rudder and when the static discharge works normally it is very unlikely that the aircraft stung by lightning strikes that cause interference with the electronics and body of an aircraft.
