Abstract
Natural dyes are dyes that come from natural ingredients generally derived from plant and animal extracts. Onion skin can be extracted to extract the color pigment in the skin. The purpose of this study was to optimize the process of making natural red onion skin dyes and to determine the resistance of red onion skin dyes to dry rubbing tests. Onion peel is extracted to obtain color pigment using an ultarsonic extraction process. The extraction of shallot skin was carried out using 96% alcohol solvent. The variations used were [A] types of fabrics (Chiffon, Linen); [B] extraction temperature (70 ° C, 80 ° C); [C] skin mass (50gr, 100gr); [D] mordanting process (without mordant, with mordant); immersion time (1 day, 2 days). The mordan used in this study is lime. The experimental results show that the extraction of shallot peel by ultrasonic extraction is able to produce very high purity and is efficient in the use of time. This research used dry rub test and data analysis with the taguchi method. From the results of data processing for analysis of variance mean, it is obtained that the F ratio value is greater than the F table, with the F ratio value at factor A = 0.756471> F table = 3.57; factor B = 50.55035> F table = 3.57; factor C = 42.22996> F table = 3.57; factor D = 37.4795> F table = 3.57 and factor E = 64.48799> F table = 3.57. From these results, because factor A has a smaller F ratio, the extraction temperature, skin mass, mordanting process and immersion time affect the coloring process in the dry rub test, while factor A (type of fabric) has no effect on the coloring process.
