Abstract

Discriminatory policies destroy the social ties of the City of Surakarta. Conflict becomes hidden because it does not regulate the multi-ethnic social structure again. Discrimination causes tension between tribes, races, cultures, religions, and others. Several conflicts occurred, namely Javanese-Chinese, Keraton, and Islam-Christian. Tension can be crushed by democracy. The key to democracy is popular sovereignty. People have a social identity that is a differentiator. A lot happened due to the conflict, one of them the building was destroyed and then turned into a rigid and closed. To minimize this, multicultural activities need to be centered somewhere. Therefore it is necessary to change and make a place that accommodates and becomes a multicultural landmark in the form of the Surakarta Cultural Center. The method used is field observations, literature studies, and site analysis. There is a concept related to social problems, namely urban acupuncture. This concept was adapted from traditional Chinese medicine, namely the acupuncture technique. This technique aims to influence on a small scale into large or broad. It is hoped that the Surakarta Culltural Center will become a new icon of multicultural peace.
