Abstract
Writing activities in schools today have led to many problems. For example, the difficulty of writing or pouring ideas into writing is one of the problems that occur with students. Therefore, the need for knowledge about cohesiveness and coherence to create a coherent and whole discourse. This study aims to describe: 1) the cohesiveness of the results of the students of SMPN 3 Colomadu, 2) the coherence of the results of the students of SMPN 3 Colomadu. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative with data collection techniques are listening and note taking, and the data analysis technique uses a referential equivalent method and the aggregate method. The results of this study indicate that 1) There is a cohesiveness of discourse which includes: a) markers of grammatical cohesion consisting of references, substitutions, ellipsis, and conjunctions. b) markers of lexical cohesion consisting of synonyms, collocations, and reps. 2) There is a coherence of discourse which includes: a) signed coherence consisting of additives, causality, chronology, temporal, intensity, and contrast. b) unmarked coherence consisting of detailed coherence.
