Abstract

SURAKARTA 2010. This study is proposed to reveal how alienation of natural resources reflected in Blood Diamond directed by Edward Zwick which is released in 2006. The object of the study is the Blood Diamond movie directed by Edward Zwick. The objectives of the study are to analyze the structural elements in the movie and to analyze the alienation to natural resources based on a Marxist approach. The writer employs the descriptive qualitative research as a type of the research. The data sources are divided into two, namely primary data source and secondary data source. The primary data source is the movie and script of Blood Diamond and the secondary data source is information related to the primary data source, website, and book on Marxist approach. The method of collecting data is observation and library review. The method of collecting data is descriptive technique. Based on the analysis, the researcher draws two conclusions: first based on the structural analysis, the movie of Edward Zwick Blood Diamond (2006) has united structural elements in which the structural elements are related one another. It also wants to deliver a message that the natural resources of the country belong to the people of the country, so every single country has the right to exploit their natural resources for the prosperity of their people. Second based on the Marxist analysis, Edward Zwick wants to reflect that alienation to natural resources of Sierra Leone’s people represents the oppression of people who master the base and the superstructure of this country
