Abstract

Abstract Fanaticism is a belief that makes a person blind so that he is willing to do everything in order to maintain his beliefs. Fanaticism is usually something positive and can be negative according to the view of Goddard's theory of fanaticism. The purpose of this study is to find out, understand, and describe people's perceptions of fanaticism in football supporters. This research is a qualitative descriptive study. The informants in this study were the community around the Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta totaling 60 informants consisting of adolescent men and women aged to adults. Data collection methods by open questionnaire. The data obtained were analyzed using descriptive. The results of this study indicate that people have positive perceptions and negative perceptions of fanaticism of supporters of football. Based on these perceptions, people have different attitudes towards fanaticism of football supporters. People who have a positive perception of the fanaticism of supporters of football are shown attitudes such as support, advice, pride, and concern. Then the people who have negative perceptions of fanaticism of football supporters, the attitude shown as usual, rejecting, disappointed, feeling embarrassed and disturbed.
