Abstract
This study aims to describe 1) marketing strategies applied in SMK Muhammadiyah 2 Karanganyar, 2) challenges or obstacles faced in marketing related to SMK Muhammadiyah 2 Karanganyar, 3) efforts made to deal with challenges or obstacles in marketing that are applied at SMK Muhammadiyah 2 Karanganyar. This research is a qualitative research with a descriptive qualitative design. The subjects of this study were the principal, vice principal, PPDB committee, students and parents of students of SMK Muhammadiyah 2 Karanganyar. Data collection techniques used were interviews, observation and documentation. Researchers use source triangulation. Data analysis techniques using data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of this study indicate that 1) the marketing strategy undertaken by Muhammadiyah 2 Karanganyar Vocational School, namely: the preparation of the PPDB team, conducting socialization and ESQ (Emotional Spiritual Questient) in SMP / MTs, promotion through activities and skills in the form of providing training to become ceremonial officers, ball pick up strategies, and billboards and brochures. 2) Challenges or obstacles faced are school competition or competitors, government policies on the implementation of the zoning system and non-paying public schools, school marketing strategies that are copied by other schools, and the COVID-19 pandemic. 3) School efforts in overcoming these challenges or obstacles are making new strategies, door to door or picking up the ball, providing free facilities for new students, online registration and posting brochures on social media.
