Abstract
This research is aimed at describing four things. They are the implementation of teaching-learning process of writing descriptive text to the tenth year students at MAN I Surakarta boarding school, the problem faced by the teacher, the problem faced by the student, and the problem solving used by the teacher to overcome the problem in learning descriptive text. This research uses descriptive qualitative research. The research data in this study were collected in the form of information about the teaching-learning activities of writing descriptive text to the tenth year students at MAN I Surakarta boarding school. The methods of collecting data are observation, interview and document. The researcher finds that the implementation of teaching-learning process is conducted in four stages. There are: Building Knowledge of the Field (BKOF), Modeling of the Text (MOT), Joint Construction of the Text (JCOT), and Independent Construction of the Text (ICOT). In teaching-learning process, there are some problems faced by the English teacher namely; classroom management, limited time, different capability of the students, less motivation of students to write, and the evaluation system. The problems are also faced by the students. They have difficulties in developing paragraph in descriptive text, and students have difficulties in mastering component of writing. The ways used by the teacher to overcome the problems are the teacher gives a chance to the students to ask about the material that they do not understand yet, and the teacher gives advices and motivation about the importance of their activity in writing class.
