Abstract

The purpose of this study is to utilize used bottle waste as a base material for tile coating, in addition to developing glaze material and analyzing the characteristics, structure and hardness of glaze material. Furnace heaters are used in research to heat glaze material with a holding time of 60 minutes. The composition of glaze specimen forming in this study uses glass material with coloring agents and combined with water. The variations in the composition between the glaze and the coloring agent are (A) 90% glass powder: 10% coloring agent, (B) 80% glass powder: 20% coloring agent, (C) 70% glass powder: 30% coloring agent and (D ) 60% glass powder: 40% coloring agent. 2 ml of water is used to mix the composition of the glaze material. The hardness test results showed that the holding time was 60 minutes ie 79.3 VHN and the lowest hardness was at 74.2 VHN, then microstructure testing showed the presence of blue and pinhole pigments visible on the surface of specimen A, but it appeared smaller compared to specimens B, C, D. There were differences in values hardness in each variation is caused by the comparison of different material compositions. the micro structure formed is also different. Micro photo test results show the presence, pinhole, pigment, pore, zircon, it is influenced by differences in composition between glass and color and is possible at the time of fire resistance.
