Abstract

Batik industries use lots of water for the coloring and washing process. Hence, it generates waste water containing chemical oxygen demand (COD), suspended, dissolved solids as well as heavy metal like lead. One of the methods to reduce lead and COD content is electrocoagulation. It uses electrical energy and converts it into a chemical reaction on electrodes. This research intended to reduce COD and lead concentration using alumunium and copper as the electrodes. The chosen independent variables were time and voltage. Time variations (30, 60, 90, and 120 minutes) and voltage variation (5, 10, 15, and 20 Volt). Based on the analyses performed the highest reduction of COD and lead concentration was at 120 minutes and 20 volt. The concentration of COD after the electrocoagulation was 58,8235 mg/L while the concentration of lead was 0,333 mg/L
