Abstract
The metal connection process that is widely used in the world of manufacturing industry is Las. Welding or connecting between two types of metals is the right choice. Welding does not require a long time, its lightweight construction has good connection strength, and the cost is quite cheap. One of the newest welding examples is friction stir welding. This study aims to determine the tensile strength, hardness of steel and copper joints using the FSW method. Welding in this study uses material of low carbon steel and copper. In the welding process using a conventional milling machine with rotation used 800 rpm, feed rate 12.5mm / minute, slope angle 10 and 1.8 mm plunge dept. From the results of tensile testing at 800 rpm, the average tensile stress value of 139.31 Mpa and strain averaged 0.37%. While the 1250 rpm rotation obtained the average tensile stress value of 115.26 MPa and the average strain of 0.11. Whereas in the hardness test the Stir Zone area experienced an increase in the value of hardness compared to the previous region, namely the base metal and HAZ regions.
