Abstract
Diabetes Mellitus is a disease with an increasing prevalence in Indonesia, from 1.5% in 2013 to 20% in 2018 (RISKESDAS 2018). The condition of diabetes can cause hypoalbuminemia. Propolis is a natural ingredient derived from bees that contain CAPE as a high antioxidant that works to overcome oxidative stress that occurs in Diabetes Mellitus and Hypoalbuminemia. This study aimed to determine the effect of propolis on plasma albumin levels in strain wistar albino rat induced 2 by streptozotocin-nicotinamide. This research was a true experimental design with pre-test-post test control group design. The number of samples were 28 rats which were then divided into 4 groups namely KP1 (nondiabetic control group). KP2 (diabetic control group). KP3 (Streptozotocin-induced group and propolis at a dose of 0.0216 g / 200 g BW/ day) and KP4 (Streptozotocin and propolis induced groups at a dose of 00432 g / 200 g BW/day). Furthermore, albumin levels were measured using the Colorimetric Test method. Then the results are tested using the One Way Anova test. The results of this study showed that there was a significant increase in albumin levels in the KP3 group and KP4 group mice. The increase in albumin levels in the KP3 group was 1.92 g/ dL while in the KP 4 group it was 2.75 g/dL. Giving propolis dosage of 0.0432 g/200 g BW/day and dosage of 0.0432 g/200 g BW/day in rats or 1200 mg/day and 2400 mg/day in humans significantly influences weight gain, decreasing levels GDP and albumin levels increase. Giving propolis dosage 0.0432 g/200 g BW/day in albino wistar strain rats had a greater effect on increasing levels of albumin in albino wistar strain rat compared with propolis dose 0,0216 g/200 g BW/day.
