Abstract

Many smoking behaviors are done to reduce tension, forget the problems encountered, become more confident and get pleasant feelings. Conduct smoking behavior to overcome the problem is a negative way or also called a negative coping strategy. The purpose of this study are a) to determine the relationship between coping strategies with smoking behavior in adolescents. b) to find out the category of coping strategies in adolescents c) to find out the categories of smoking behavior in adolescents d) effective contribution of coping strategies to smoking behavior. The hypothesis proposed in this study is that there is a relationship between coping strategies with smoking behavior in adolescents. The research subjects in this study were 52 vocational students. Sampling is done by quota sampling technique based on certain criteria. Methods of data collection with measuring instruments in the form of coping strategy scale and smoking behavior scale. Based on the results of research using the Product Moment analysis technique from Pearson obtained correlation coefficient (rxy) of = -0.183 with sig = 0.195 (p <0.05) which means there is a negative relationship between coping strategies with smoking behavior in adolescents. The results of data analysis show that smoking behavior is classified as moderate, the category of coping strategies is high and the effective contribution of coping strategies to smoking behavior is 3.34% so there are other factors that influence smoking behavior in adolescents.
