Abstract
This research paper is intended 1) to describe the capability of the students in SMP N 3 Trucuk Klaten in writing descriptive paragraph 2) to describe the aspects of descriptive paragraph that becomes the most difficult for the students to master. The study was done in SMP N 3 Trucuk Klaten at the second year using qualitative research. This study uses interview and test in collecting the data. The writer collects the data, analyzes and gives scores based on the separate scores for each of a number of aspects in writing descriptive paragraph of the second year students. Scoring system is used to describe the students’ capability in writing descriptive paragraph. The result of the study shows that the students’ capability in writing descriptive paragraph that 17 students belong to good category(the score 70-84) are 42,5%, 12 students who belong to fair category (the score 55-69) are 30%, 11 students who belong to poor category (the score 0-54) are 27,5%, and there is no student who belongs to very good category. There are some aspects in writing descriptive paragraph, namely: content, organization , vocabulary, mechanism and grammar. The aspects in writing descriptive paragraph that are difficult faced mostly by the second year students of SMP N 3 Trucuk Klaten are grammar and vocabulary.
