Abstract
The research is proposed to analyze the personality of Miss Prym in a novel with the title The Devil and Miss Prym with a Psychoanalytic Approach. There are two objectives: the first is to analyze the novel in term of structural element, and the second is to analyze the novel based on Psychoanalytic Approach. This study is a descriptive qualitative study, using the novel of Paulo Coelho’s The Devil and Miss Prym as the object of analysis. There are two kinds of data source used in the analyzing, namely primary and secondary data sources. The primary data are the novel itself and the secondary data sources are books, internet and article related to the subject. The technique of data collection in this research is library research by summarizing, paraphrasing and documenting the data. In analyzing the data, the writer employs descriptive qualitative analysis. In this study, the writer draws two conclusions as follows: First, In The Devil and Miss Prym, through the kinds of the structural elements, it can be seen that the structural elements of the novel has contribution in creating the novel. It also supports each other because the theme, character and characterization, plot, setting, and style comprehensively build unified structure and give contribution to the total meaning of work. Secondly, The Devil and Miss Prym is a story charged with emotion, in which the integrity of being human meets a terrifying test. Paulo Coelho's stunning novel explores the timeless struggle between good and evil, and brings to the everyday dilemmas fresh perspective: incentive to master the fear that prevents from following dreams, from being different, from truly living.
