Abstract
Heat exchanger is a device used to move heat from one to another system. The purpose of this research is to get optimum rotary dryer rotation in cassava drying process as seen from the reduction in cassava mass, the heat received by cassava, efficiency of the rotary dryer, and efficiency of the heat exchanger unit. The rotation variations used were 26,25 rpm; 30 rpm; 42 rpm; and 70 rpm. This research of drying load 1,5 kg. The flow used is cross flow, where cold fluid is flowed to the heat exchanger through the tube. Cold fluid will receive heat from the hot fluid produced from the combustion process of LPG gas. Hot fluid is supplied to the shell heat exchanger. Cold fluid that has received heat and is flowed in a heat exchanger tube will come out to the drying machine used in drying cassava. In heat exchanger cross flow circular fin tube with 1,5 kg drying load, optimal results obtained at a rotation speed of 26,25 rpm with a change in cassava mass of 14,6 %, the heat received by cassava at 2675565,8 J, efficiency of rotary dryer 47,8 %, and heat exchanger efficiency of 26,9 %.
