Abstract
The increase using motor vehicle in Banjarsari Sub-district of Surakarta City has a significant impact on pollution in the area, especially air pollution. To do measurements of air quality requires need a lot of costs. But we can contend it by using a life indicator which is commonly called by a bioindicator. Lichen bioindicator is one of the most commonly used for organisms as an air quality bioindicator in an area. This study purposes to determine the type of lichen is used as a bio-indicator of air pollution in Banjarsari District, Surakarta City. It used the method of explorative with Explorer . The Sampling was taken using purposive sampling technique. The sampling locations in two stations were A. Yani street and MT. Haryono street in the Surakarta City. The identification results obtained 6 families consisting of 8 species namely physciaceae (Dirinaria sp., Dirinaria applanata, Dirinaria picta), Leprariaceae (Lepraria incana), arthoniaceae (Arthonia sp), Graphidaceae (Graphis sp.), Parmeliaceae (Parmeliopsis sp.), Pyrenulaceae (Pyrenula sp.). Based on observations that had been made in A. Yani Street, the volume of vehicles was 5644 units / hour and there were 5 species of lichen.
