Abstract
This study aims to determine the effect of sprue size differences on chemical composition, porosity defects, hardness and micro photographs. The raw material of this research is recycled aluminum from various components that are recast This research will examine the differences in sprue sizes of 10mm, 15mm and 20mm. Tests carried out include chemical composition tests, porosity observations, vickers hardness tests (SNI 19.0407.1998), and micro-photo tests with Metallographic Microscopes. The results showed that the results of the chemical composition found the highest chemical elements were Aluminum (Al), Silicon (Si). So that from the elements present this material includes silicon metal alloys (Al-Si). The highest hardness value was found in the 20mm sprue diameter of 110.55 VHN, while the sprue diameter of 15mm was 89.19 VHN and at the size of the sprue diameter of 10mm was 82.96 VHN. The difference in hardness in the test is influenced by the results of porosity on the results of the castings.
