Abstract
Thematic atlas instructional media is important to be developed because it can stimulate students' spatial thinking skills. Disaster knowledge is important to increase students' knowledge, especially in the country of Indonesia which is well known as a disaster supermarket. This study aims to (1) Determine the characteristics of the thematic atlas media needed (2) Develop a thematic atlas media on the material of inter-space interaction impacts as a basis for disaster knowledge (3) Know the effectiveness of the thematic atlas media in learning. This research was a type of research and development that uses the Borg & Gall development model. The design of the experiment used the pre-test post-test control group design with the students of class VII F and VII G of SMP MTA Gemolong as respondents. The data analysis technique used is the T test. The results showed (1) The characteristics of the thematic atlas media developed were compiled with interesting writing and communicative language (2) The process of developing thematic atlas media had been through product improvement and respondent ratings with an average rating of 4.5 included in the "Good" category (3) T-test results in the pre-test and post-test of the control class and the experimental class show the results of differences namely H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted learning control class 54.93% and experimental class 71.62%. Improved learning outcomes of the experimental class 16.69% higher than the control class. In conclusion, the thematic atlas learning media can enhance students' understanding of the material of inter-space interaction impacts.
