Abstract
Rice straw is the largest agricultural waste in Indonesia which has not been used optimally. Rice straw contains cellulose so that it can be used as raw material for making pulp. This research was conducted with the aim of knowing the effect of cooking time and sodium hydroxide concentration on decreasing levels of lignin pulp from rice straw by kraft process. The cooking solution used in the kraft process is NaOH and Na2S solution. The concentrations used were 4% Na2S, NaOH variation (0%, 1%, 3% and 5%) and cooking time (30, 60, 90, and 120 minutes). The highest lignin level was 3,057312% at 30 minutes of pulping time with a concentration of 0% NaOH and 4% Na2S. While the lowest level of lignin is 0,899767% at pulping time for 120 minutes with 5% NaOH concentration and 4% Na2S.
