Abstract
Introduction: Anemia is a state of hemoglobin (Hb) levels in the blood lower than normal. Anemia is influenced by consumption of food sources of iron such as meat, fish and eggs. In Indonesia, the national prevalence of anemia is 21.7%. Objective: This study aimed to determine the difference between meat, fish and egg consumption between anemic and non-anemic teenage girls. Research Methodology: This study used a cross sectional design. Subjects were young women aged 10-12 years who had not yet menstruated, did not experience any pain when taking blood samples, and were willing to become subjects of research. The number of subjects was 80 respondents consisting of 39 anemia and 41 non-anemia subjects. Data on hemoglobin levels were obtained by the cyanmethemoglobin method and data on meat, fish and egg consumption were obtained using the Semi-Quantitative FFQ form. Independent t-test is used to see differences in meat consumption and Mann Whitney test is used for differences in fish consumption and egg consumption. Results: Habit of meat consumption in the low category was 40%, low category fish consumption was 80% and egg consumption in the low category was 47.5%. Test the difference in consumption of meat, fish and eggs between anemia and non-anemia young women in sequence showed P = 0,000, P = 0.005, and P = 0,000. There was a difference in consumption of meat, fish and eggs between anemic and non-anemic young women. Conclusion: There were differences in meat, fish and egg consumption between anemic and non-anemic adolescent girls in the study area. It was expected that students in the anemia category increase their intake of meat, fish and eggs.
