Abstract
According to Main Data Results of Riskesdas 2018 of DM prevalence national based on doctor's diagnosis the percentage of Indonesian population aged> 15 years who suffer from diabetes mellitus has increased from 2013-2018. Blood glucose level is a value that describes the amount or concentration of glucose in the blood. It is also used to diagnose diabetes mellitus. Blood glucose level has increased due to several factors, one of which is the glycemic load contained in food. The glycemic load is a value that can reflect insulin responses to the food consumed. Glycemic load provides an overview of the response of blood glucose levels to food, especially the amount and type of carbohydrates in food. Carbohydrates that consist of monosaccharides and disaccharides are the main carbohydrates which are found in fruit. The aim of this study is to determine the relationship of fruit glycemic load with blood glucose levels in patients with type II diabetes mellitus in Jasmine Clinic 2 Surakarta. The study is a cross-sectional study with a total of 40 respondents who fit the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Sampling was done by sampling consecutive technique. Fruit glycemic load was calculated using semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaire (FFQ) by calculating the average of carbohydrate intake of fruit over the past 1 month. The glycemic load was obtained from the product of the carbohydrate content in the fruit and the glycemic index value of the fruit. Blood glucose levels were measured using a spectrophotometer in mg / dL units. The statistical test that was used is Pearson product moment. 20 (50%) respondents had low glycemic load with high blood glucose levels and 20 (50%) respondents had low glycemic load with normal blood glucose levels. The statistical analysis shows that there is an association between glycemic load of fruits and fasting blood glucose levels (p=0.543). The glycemic load of fruit has no correlation with blood glucose levels in patients with type II diabetes mellitus in Jasmine Clinic 2 Surakarta.
