Abstract

The problem in SMA Negeri 1 Comal, Pemalang Regency was the geography teacher at the school did not use learning media that based in digital, so it did not attract the attention and understanding of students in the learning process, then the development of instructional media is required. The purposes of this study are (1) Find out the result of development of documentary video as instructional media (2) Know the effectiveness of use teaching media of video documentary in materials watershed and groundwater conservation. This research was a development research using the 4D model (Define, Design, Develop, Dissemination), but there was limitation on the dissemination stage. The research design to know the effectiveness of instructional media used pre-test, post-test, control group design by taking 2 tenth grade as a control class with the number of samples are 36 students and 35 students are experimental class. Technique of data analysis used technique of descriptive quantitative and T-test to check the effectiveness of media of video documentary. The results of the research showed (1) The results of media development through the media feasibility test showed an average value of 4.41 from material experts and 4.34 of media experts with a rating scale of 1-5, the results stated in the category of "Good" so that the product is worth to use. (2) Results of T-test showed that both of the control class and the experimental class produced a significance value of 0,000 < 0.05 then H0 was rejected and H1, it means that there were significant differences in the average level of student knowledge from before and after learning process. The results of increasing in each class were 46.79% with the category of "less effective" in the control class and 59.72% in the category of "quite effective" in the experimental class. This showed that the media of video documentary for watershed materials and groundwater conservation is effectively used as a instructional media.
