Abstract
Air pollution can have a negative impact on health. Air pollution often occurs on highways due to motor vehicle fumes. A parking attendants is a job that has the potential to experience respiratory problems because their work location is around the highway. This study aims to determinerelationship to the use of PPEon respiratory symptoms in official parking attendants in Surakarta. This research is a quantitative research with cross sectional approach. The population in this study was the official parking attendants on the Gatoto Subroto street, Honggowongsostreet and Dr. Radjiman street.Population in this research as many as 41 people the minimum sample used to avoid bias is 37 people. Conducted on these three streets because the three streets are heavy traffic and there are still many parking attendants who don't use PPE masks The sampling technique in this study was by total sampling. The bivariate analysis used was using a significance chi square test of 0.05. The results of bivariate analysis showed that parking attendants used mask and felt respiratory symptoms as many as 2 people while 2 parking attendants who used mask and did not feel respiratory symptoms as many as 26 people. Then the parking attendants who did not use a mask and felt respiratory symptoms as many as 13 peoplewhile the parking attendants who did not use a mask and did not feel respiratory symptoms as many as 0 people.Bivariate results also showed that there was a relationship to the use of PPE and respiratory symptoms in official parking attendants in Surakarta (p = 0,000). Therefore, parking attendants should use PPE in the form of masks to avoid symptoms of respiratory distress.
