Abstract
The limitation of the availability of non-renewable energy sources, especially fuel oil, is the biggest threat to the community because of its very essential use. The used of alternative energy, especially for renewable energy, one of which is briquette from biomass. The rapid spread of water hyacinth and peat soil cause a number of waters to become biomass stockpiles. This of course has an adverse effect on the environment. Through previous research it is known that water hyacinth and peat soil can be processed into charcoal, which when added to the binding material can be made into briquettes. In this study, making briquettes from water hyacinth and peat soil with adhesive from sugar cane drops and starch. The cellulose content of water hyacinth when dry reaches 64.51% and the decomposition process of peat soil can increase the calorific value and reduce oxygen levels, so that a mixture of both water hyacinth and peat soil has the potential to provide a sufficiently high calorific value. this goiter and peat land by making charcoal briquettes. This is what would be studied further, namely how to increase the use value of water hyacinth and peat soil to be even better. In this study, the adhesive from stillage and starch was used because it has good absorbency and water adhesion. In making this briquette consists of several stages including: preparation of raw materials and tools, drying, raw material processing, pressing. This study used variables independent of peat tempering temperature (500; 550; 600; 650; 700) ° C and particle size in peat 20, 40, 60, 70, and 80 mesh. In the research, the lowest calorific value at 500oC was 5,151 calories / gram and the highest heat yield at 700oC was 8,756.70 calories / gram. Besides that, the highest water content was obtained at 5 grams and at 700oC at 7.40% and the lowest at 4.00%.
