Abstract
THE DIFFERENCES IN MINERAL INTAKE BETWEEN ANEMIC AND NON-ANEMIC YOUNG WOMEN. Introduction: Anemia is the number of red blood cells that cannot meet the physiological needs of the body, resulting in an increase in plasma volume which results in a thin level of hemoglobin without changes in red blood cells. Anemia is an Indonesian public health problem with a national anemia prevalence of 21,7%. Girls are a group that is prone to suffer from anemia. Lack of iron substances is one of the causes of anemia, in addition to iron, zinc substances are also needed by the body as transferring synthesis and copper acts as hemoglobin synthesis. The purpose: This research aims to determine the differences in mineral intake in anemic and non anemia adolescent girls in SDN Totosari I, and SDN Tunggulsari I, II Surakarta. The research Methodology: This research used a cross sectional design, each of them is 39 anemia samples and 39 non anemia samples. Hemoglobin level data were obtained through the cyanmethemoglobin method and iron substances, zinc and copper mineral intake using semi-quantitative FFQ in the past month. Data were analyzed using the Kolmogorof-Smirnov test to see normality of the data, followed by the Mann Whitney test to see the difference between iron substances intake, zinc and copper intake in anemic adolescent girls. The results: The results of this study showed that anemic groups are 39 respondents (48.3%) and the non anemic groups 41 respondents (51,3%). The results treated with SPSS V.20 showed that iron substances mineral intake of most respondents belonged to insufficient category which was less than 95%. Zinc mineral intake of most respondents were also insufficient less than 95%. Copper mineral intake mostly belonged to the sufficient category of 67,5%. The conclusions and recommendations: There were significant differences in iron substances and copper mineral intake between anemic and non – anemic adolescent girls in the reseach area. There was no significant diffrerence in zinc mineral intake between anemic and non anemic adolescent girls. Anemic students can increase their food intake which is high in iron substances, zinc and copper. Non-anemic students should maintain a good died.
