Abstract

This study aims to: 1) describe the strengthening of the character of patriotism through Hizbul Wathan's extracurricular activities; 2) find out the obstacles in strengthening the character of patriotism through Hizbul Wathan's extracurricular activities; 3) solutions to overcome obstacles in strengthening the love character of the motherland through the extracurricular activities of Hizbul Wathan. This research was conducted at Muhammadiyah 6 Middle School in Surakarta. Data collection methods in this study used interviews, observation, and documentation. Indicators of patriotism in this study are: 1) using domestic products; 2) using good and correct Indonesian; 3) provide information with printed, electronic sources about Indonesia's natural and cultural wealth; 4) display photos of the president, the State flag, the symbol of the State, maps of Indonesia and pictures of people's lives. The validity of the data in this study uses technical triangulation and source triangulation. The data analysis technique in this study uses the Interactive model method. The results showed that (1) strengthening the love character of the motherland can be strengthened through the use of domestic products, using good and correct Indonesian, providing information from printed sources, displaying photos of the president and vice president; (2) obstacles in strengthening the love character of the homeland, namely the conditioning of students requires a long time, the lack of coach Hizbul Wathan in the Muhammadiyah 6 Junior High School, Surakarta, hours of extracurricular activities are too late so that students have started to fatigue due to the hot sun, and the teacher's instructor learns self-taught material; (3) Solutions to overcome obstacles in strengthening the character of patriotism through Hizbul Wathan's extracurricular namely parents' support, motivating participants, adding coaches who have skills in scouting Hizbul Wathan, and forming new qualified cadres to become Hizbul's coaches Wathan Based on the results of this study it can be concluded that the extracurricular activities of Hizbul Wathan are highly influential on the strengthening of the character of patriotism in students at SMP Muhammadiyah 6 Surakarta.
