Abstract

Curcuma aeruginosa Roxb. is one of the plants that potentially produce an essential oil. Essential oil from C. aeruginosa Roxb. rhizome has dark brown color with a distinctive odor of C. aeruginosa Roxb. which has antibacterial, antiinflammatory, and antimutagenic activity. This study aims to study the effect of MAE method of C. aeruginosa Roxb. rhizome with material size (circular, elongated, and dice) and extraction time (1 and 2 hours) variable on yield, physical properties, and chemical components of C. aeruginosa Roxb. oil. This study used 300 ml of ethanol 96% as a solvent to extract oil in C. aeruginosa Roxb. rhizome. The C. aeruginosa Roxb. weight used is 100 g with 500 watts of microwave power. From the result of the study, it was obtained both color, odor, density, refractive index, yield, and chemical components of oil. The oil produced has a dark brown color with a distinctive odor of C. aeruginosa Roxb. The density value ranges from 0.8601 – 0.8832 g/ml and the refractive index value ranges from 1.3462 – 1.3515. The largest yield was produce on the dice size with 2 hours of extraction is 5.078%. The result of GC-MS obtained the largest chemical component of oil is 1,8 cineole.
