Abstract

Bacteria Staphylococcus aureus is a bacterium that causes skin infections. S.aureus is one of the bacteria that has experienced a lot of resistance to some antibiotics such as the penicillin group. Medicinal plants such as ketepeng Cina, continued life, gotu kola, and red spinach have the potential to be antibacterial. The purpose of this study was to determine the antibacterial activity of 4 plants against the sensitive and resistant Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923, and to know the active compounds. The antibacterial test method used is the disk diffusion method. The sensitive antibacterial test results of S.aureus ATCC 25923 show that the extract which is the highest in antibacterial activity is ketepeng cina with the results at a concentration of 10% b/v yielding 9.170.29 mm, a concentration of 20% b/v of 11.330, 29 mm and a concentration of 40% b/v of 14.330.29 mm. The inhibitory zone is radical. Furthermore, ketepeng china extract was tested on S.aureus resistant with the results at a concentration of 10% b/v of 10.83 0.58 mm, a concentration of 20% b/v of 12.33 ± 1.04 mm and a concentration of 40% b/v is 15.000.50 mm and the resulting zone is irradical. The compounds contained in the ketepeng china extract through TLC test results are saponin compounds, flavonoids, steroids, tannins and alkaloids. Testing with bioautography found no inhibitory zone so it is not known which compounds are active as antibacterial.
