Abstract

The West Borneo Province is one of the regions that can be dubbed the "Thousand River" Province. This nickname is in line with the geographical conditions which have hundreds of large rivers and small rivers which among them can and are often navigable. The city of Pontianak as the capital of the Province of West Kalimantan has a very large potential of water resources because it is drained by the Kapuas River. The Kapuas River is the longest river in Indonesia, which is 1,086 Km and also the watershed has a catchment area of 98,249 Km2, where there are 33 main rivers and 11 branches. The Kapuas River has strategic values and functions for its people and has a very large role in the era of development in the area of West Kalimantan Province. By developing the potential of the Kapuas River tourist attraction so that it is attractive to both local and foreign tourists. With the crowds of tourist visits will have a positive impact on the community, namely restaurants will be crowded and souvenirs will be in demand. Besides the potential, the Kapuas River has a connection to the tourist objects / tour packages in Pontianak and is quite well known, including the Equator Monument (international scale), Kraton Khadariyah, Jam'i Sultan Mosque and Batu Layang tomb, all located on the edge of the rivers that can be visited by the river River cruiser. Based on the information described above, the author takes the title Development of Tourism Areas on the Kapuas River in the City of Pontianak. The tourism area development aims to make the environment around the river banks look more beautiful if there is no garbage and dirt around the river so it can be done by dredging the river to remove the existing garbage.
