Abstract
Researches on the use of sengon (Albizia chinensis) wood sawdust considered as waste have been not optimally conducted. The present research is conducted to acquire data on physical and mechanical properties of sengon wood sawdust reinforced with eceng gondok (Eichhornia crassipes) fiber, so that it can be useful for industrial sector. The research used varied matrixes and composites with volume fractions of 40%, 50%, and 60%. Standard of tensile test used ASTM D368-02 standard, bending test complied with ASTM D 790-02 standard and sound absorption was tested by using ANSI-S1-13 test standard. Macro photograph indicated a fracture type of broken fiber. The broken fiber is fracture occurring in a specimen in which the fiber experiences break or damage with form of fiber. Direction of the crack was perpendicular in connection with direction of working tensile stress and they resulted in relatively flat surface for volume resin fraction of 40%, and the fracture formed crack for volume resin fraction of 50% and 60%.
