Abstract
Destiny is a measurement that has been set by God to both living and dead creatures in terms of their shape, characteristics, and conditions according to their time and place. This study focuses on a discussion of destiny in the views of two prominent figures which are Indonesian and Middle Eastern interpreters with the title "Comparative Study of Tafseer of Verses Related to Destiny (Qadar) According to Sayyid Qutb in Fī Zilālil Qur'an and Hamka in Al-Azhār." This research departs from the problems regarding the meaning of fate terminologically from the classical era to contemporary times is still a difference among scholars. This type of research is library research with a descriptive approach to explaining the interpretation of both. Primary data is taken from Tafseer Fī Zilālil Qur'an and Tafseer Al-Azhār. Then to get conclusions of the study, the researcher took five verses relevant to the discussion of destiny, namely the fate of humans in the Surah 'Abasa verse 19 and the Surah Ash-Shura verse 50, the destiny of the universe at Surah At-Talaq verse 12 and Surah Yunus verse 5, human freedom and God's will in Surah Ar-Ra'ad verse 11. From the five verses, conclusions can be drawn with similarities and differences. In the first verse, Sayyid Qutb places more emphasis on the basic material of human creation, while Hamka emphasizes the process of human creation. The second verse of Sayyid Qutb and Hamka argues that God has determined human life, and humans are given offspring according to God's will. The third verse, Sayyid Qutb, argues that the creation of the heavens and the earth is the secret of Allah and humans cannot justify God's creation. While Hamka explains that the creation of the heavens and the earth can be known through knowledge developed by humans, although not perfect because of their limitations. The fourth verse Sayyid Qutb and Hamka argue that the creation of the sun, moon, and other heavenly bodies already has eternal provisions. In the last verse, both argue that humans are given the freedom to act and behave by maximizing their sense to change their situation from evil to goodness, but freedom is limited by the Sunnah of Allah that applies to each of His creations. The second thoughts of the exegetes are the same as the thoughts and views of the Asy-Ariyah group, which states that humans must continue to strive to determine their destiny, but it is God who determines them.
