Abstract
Abstract Concrete is a building material that is quite heavy, with a weight of about 2400 kg / m3. To reduce the dead load originating from its own weight, experts develop lightweight concrete techniques. Lightweight concrete is concrete that weighs less than 1800 kg / m3. In order to obtain lightweight concrete, in this study Styrofoam was used as a substitute for some fine aggregates. Lightweight concrete research was carried out to assess the effect of Styrofoam on the compressive strength of the concrete and the flexural strength of the wall, with a ratio of 50% and 60% Styrofoam as a substitute for some fine aggregates, with f.a.s 0.4. Test specimens in the form of concrete cylinders of 15 cm x 30 cm in a total of 8 samples. While the flexural strength of the specimen is a panel wall measuring 120 cm x 50 cm x 8 cm in the amount of 6 samples. The panel wall uses reinforcement reinforcement with 2 layers with a diameter of 3.5 mm, spaced 50 mm. All specimens are treated by soaking in water for 28 days. The results showed that the use of Styrofoam resulted in a decrease in the volume weight of concrete. Concrete compressive strength in a mixture of 50% Styrofoam 7.2 MPa and for a mixture of 60% Styrofoam 5.7 MPa. From the results of the analysis get an Md value of 2.37 kNm for a mixture of Styrofoam 50%, and for a mixture of Styrofoam 60% get an Md value of 2.29 kNm. This result is greater than Mu working on the wall panel, Mu = 1.725 kNm for a mixture of 50% Styrofoam and for a mixture of Styrofoam 60% Mu = 1.2 kNm. The difference between Md and Mu is due to the bounding between reinforcement and Styrofoam concrete which is lower than what happens in ordinary concrete.
