Abstract
Transformer or in other terms trafo is a component of an electric power system that is very important, because it is used to adjust the voltage at the load served. The power transformer is designed with a temperature of around 200 C, but if it continues to operate at an ambient temperature of 300 C, the transformer must be adjusted accordingly. If loading is not adjusted to the ambient temperature it can cause the aging rate of the transformer to increase. The higher the temperature at the transformer, the shorter the value of the operation and the greater the age loss of the transformer. In addition, the shrinkage of age is influenced by two factors, namely the isolation of the transformer and oil transformer winding itself. Loading on the transformer also results in iron losses. Iron losses will be infected so that it causes heat depending on the amount of loading current. This study aims to determine the effect of variations in loading on the shrinkage age of the transformer. This study uses a calculation method based on the upper oil formula, hotspot point, and the temperature around the transformer so that the aging rate and transformer life expectancy can be found. In this study a comparison of transformer life expectancy will be made when peak loads and ordinary loads. Based on observations, the ambient temperature is an important factor to determine the amount of load that can be given to the transformer, the transformer is designed to operate continuously with full load at an ambient temperature of 300 C and according to IEC the best ambient temperature is around 200 C, different from the temperature in Indonesia on average reaching 320 C during the day and 230 C at night. Based on the analysis when the transformer is loaded 100% with an ambient temperature of 320 C produces the highest aging rate of 0.101 pU with an estimated age of transformer 643,564 hours and when the transformer is loaded 80% at 200 C ambient temperature (IEC standard temperature) produces a low aging rate of 0.011 pU with an estimated transformer life of 5,909,090 hours. Given that the temperature in Indonesia is very high to obtain a long transformer, the maximum load is at best 80%, because the high ambient temperature must be balanced with a low transformer loading so that the aging rate of the transformer is also low.
