Abstract

Lost foam casting is one method of the metal casting done by polystyrene foam pattern invest inside of sand planted, then the liquid metal poured to the pattern with the result that will be melted and evaporate. The purpose of this research is to know cast temperature variation impact forward cast product’s shrinkage, porosity, density, hardness, microstructures, and chemical composition. This research performed using trace alumunium which dissolved in smelt furnaced, there are 3 cast temperature variation in use that is 700oC cast temperature, 750oC cast temperature, and 800oC cast temperature. . The data analysis that the casting product’s highest shrinkage occurred when the temperature was at 800oC with the shrinkage rate 0,119%, while at 750oC the shrinkage rate is 0,106%, and 700oC is 0,098%. Hardness rate result obtained by hardness testing shows that the lowest rate of hardness was at 700oC with 58,179 VHN, while at 750oC the hardness rate is 64,137 VHN, and 68,519 VHN when the temperature was at 800oC. The chemical composition of the alumunium consist of (Al) 91.90% (Zn) 2.2860% (Si) 1.4683 and (Mg) 0.6081%.
