Abstract

Aluminum material has the following properties: good mechanical properties, corrosion resistance, light weight and high strength. These properties can still be raised again by being given a special treatment, one of which is cold rolling treatment on aluminum material. This study aims to produce an aluminum metal that has a high level of hardness. Cold rolling in this study uses aluminum with dimension 100 x 10 x 10 mm and then gradually starts from variations in distance reduction on rollers 1 mm, 2 mm, 3 mm and 4 mm. The results showed that aluminum material before rolling had a hardness level of 75.01 HVN. After rolling process the level of hardness increases, the reduction of the 1mm roller distance has a hardness level 101.74 HVN, but in the reduction of roller distance 3 and 4 mm the hardness level decreases to 62.49 HVN and 66.46 this is due to the occurrence of new grain due to excessive heat exceeding the recrystallization temperature effect from friction samples with both rolls. But the hardness value rises again after the aluminum metal is rolled back to the reduction distance of the 4 mm roller with a maximum hardness value of 109.10 HVN.
