ANALYSIS OF ERRORS IN SOLVE THE PROBLEM OF OPEN ENDED MATERIALS OF LINE LINERS OF TWO VARIABLES BASED ON POLYA STAGE IN STUDENTS OF MUHAMMADIYAH SMP 5 SURAKARTA TEACHING YEAR 2018/2019. Thesis. School of Teacher Training and Education Departement, Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta. April, 2019. This study aims to describe the errors and the causes of errors students made in solving open ended problems in the topic of linear equation with two variables. This is a qualitative descriptive study involving all students of grade VIII A at SMP Muhammadiyah 5 Surakarta academic year 2018/2019. The analysis was conducted based on Polya Error Analysis which consists of four stages, namely understanding the problem, devising a plan, carrying out the plan, and looking back. Data collection method used in this study were observation, tests, interviews, and documentation. The data validity is done by triangulation method, that is by comparing results of tests, interviews, and documentation. The data analysis methods used in this research are data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The results of the study showed that the errors of the low category subjects had more errors. Factors that cause students to errors in completing open-ended questions on similarity linear of two variables material based on the Polya stage are that students are not accustomed to solving open-ended questions and worksheets with Polya stages, low thinking ability of students because they do not understand the material related to the problem, lack of confident in working on the problem, students do not have ideas so they are not able to carry out the plan, students cannot change the open ended questions into mathematical models, students' low interest in planning solutions, students are not careful in solving questions given in accordance with the plan , Students change variables and not according to preparation, Students are not careful in determining the end of the calculation process, Students choose to empty the answer because they do not know the solution, Students are not accustomed to writing conclusions, low management time of students to work on problems, Students do not check the answer again.
