Abstract

Curcuma aeruginosa Roxb. is a plant that potentially produce essential oils.Curcuma aeruginosa Roxb. rhizome essential oil may potentially be used as antioxidant, antifungal, antibacterial, anthelmintic, and antiinflammatory. The aim of this research was to assess of various effect of the material size (circular, elongated, dice) from the Curcuma aeruginosa Roxb. rhizome on yield, physical properties, and chemical components of Curcuma aeruginosa Roxb. rhizome essensial oil on reflux extraction and ultrasonic extraction. The process of extracting essential oil in this study using 96% ethanol as much as 400 ml as a solvent with a sympathetic weight used for 100 gr. Results of this research was the color of clear dark brown oil with a distinctive black odor was obtained. The density values range from 0,8417 – 0,8724 g/ml and the refractive index values range from 1,3422 – 1,3487. The largest yield was generated in variations in elongated material size in the reflux extraction method of 4,989%. The results of GC-MS obtained 29 main components, with eight components of the dominant compounds namely, 2,4-Di-spironorbornylcyclobuta-1,3-dione, Curdione/Neurocurdion, β-elemen, Curzerene, Valerenal/Iso-Vellerdiol, Elemene, Germacrone and Curcumol.
