Abstract
Background: Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS) is pain and discomfort that occurs after an unusual (high intensity) activity or exercise muscle contractions. Signs and symptoms of DOMS are characterized by pain, decreased muscle strength, limited mobility in joint motion and impaired motor unit muscle coordination during contraction. Pain and discomfort will develop from the first 6 to 12 hours after exercise and peak up 48 to 72 hours after exercise. Objective: to find out the differences in the effect of TENS and massage with infra red radiation and massage interventions in reducing musculoskeletal pain due to DOMS. Method: This study used a type of quasi experimental research with the type of pretest and posttest two group design. Results: Based on the results of different tests of influence using the Independent Sample T Test showed that the reduction in pain in treatment group 1 was 0.8 and treatment group 2 was 1.9. The results of treatment group 2 were higher than the treatment group 1, so there were significant differences in the effect of decreasing musculoskeletal pain due to DOMS. Conclusion: Infra red radiation and massage is more effective in reducing musculoskeletal pain due to DOMS.
