Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between self-esteem and acceptance by the tendency of the student body dysmorphic disorder. The hypothesis proposed that there is a relationship between self-esteem and acceptance by the tendency of the student body dysmorphic disorder, there is a negative relationship between self-esteem with a tendency to body dysmorphic disorder, and there is a negative relationship between self-acceptance with the tendency of body dysmorphic disorder. By using a quota sampling technique. Samples of this study were 240 students in 12 faculties of the University of Muhammadiyah Surakarta with 10 women and 10 boys. Methods of data collection using a quantitative approach with Likert models. Instrument scale of this research is the tendency scale body dysmorphic disorder, scale of self-esteem and self-acceptance scale that has been through the content validity with expert judgment. Data were analyzed using multiple regression with the help of SPSS 15.0 with the results of major hypothesis R = 0.558 and p = 0.000 significance value which means there is a relationship between self-esteem and acceptance by the tendency of body dysmorphic disorder. In the minor hypothesis results between self-esteem with a tendency to body dysmorphic disorder r = -0530 with significance level of p = 0.000, which indicates that there is a significant negative relationship. While the relationship of self-acceptance with the tendency of body dysmorphic disorder has a coefficient of r = -0478 with significance level of p = 0.000, which indicates that there is a significant negative relationship. Results were consistent with the hypothesis put forward. So that when high self-esteem and self-acceptance is high then the rate of body dysmorphic disorder tendency would be lower.
